Support for Communities

"We provide engaging workshops designed for elementary school students to explore the rich diversity of the Caribean using literary materials (such as travel diaries, stories, and poetry) and cartographic materials (including maps, atlases, islands, and itineraries). Each workshop delves into the history, literature, and geography of the Caribean basin, aiming to educate and inspire reflection on this complex geographic and cultural space defined by its diverse communities

Our main objective at Visiones del Caribe is to provide educational resources that enable children to learn about and reflect on the Caribbean's multifaceted nature.

Each workshop is structured into three parts:

  1. "Tell me what you know?" - An introductory activity leveraging students' existing knowledge and experiences as a foundation to explore the Caribbean.
  2. "Caribbean, past and present" - An interactive activity that presents historical and literary materials in a simple and engaging manner, connecting these materials to contemporary contexts.
  3. “I learned that…” - An assessment activity designed to gauge the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop.

By the end of each workshop, students are expected to deepen their understanding of Caribbean history, literature, and geography, and to reflect on their own connection to this vibrant region.

Currently, we collaborate with Centro Educativo Práctico in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Elementary in Miami, USA; and Instituto de Desarrollo Integral Leonardo Da Vinci in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic
